Oh caramel!

Mmm, finally figured out how to make the perfect caramel. Not too runny, and certainly not too goopy. Yes, I have perfected my caramel making skills and applied it to concocting an awesome treat!

So yeah, I was bored, and my teeth needed something sweet. I rushed to the kitchen and made my version of a Tarte Tatin with caramel apples! They were really good! And bite-size!

A little unorthodox!

So here is to trying something a little out of the box when it comes to making cupcakes!

These little wonders are chocolate cupcakes with strawberry-jalapeno salsa stuffing with strawberry-jalapeno salsa decor! Yes it sounds weird to put jalapeno peppers on your desserts, but it works really well with the strawberries that were very sweet.
I actually got the idea from an episode of CupCake Wars!

Instant goodness!

Another chocolate adventure, with very simple ingredients found in almost every home!
Here I was, wondering why I always forget to buy dessert items when I go grocery shopping, when I happened to stumble on this easy and delicious treat ANYONE can make!

Chocolate coated Oreo truffles! SO MUCH WIN! Even my friend Amé enjoyed them with me :)
Here's the awesome website that never stops teaching me! : http://bromabakery.blogspot.ca/2010/11/chocolate-truffles.html

Colorful endeavors!

I love birthday celebrations! And what better to celebrate than with yummy cakes!? So here I am, trying new techniques, and creating these little wonders for my ex-roommate's birthday.

Red velvet cupcakes with fresh strawberry stuffing and cream cheese frosting! She loved it, and so did everyone else! They not only tasted great, but looked awesome too! I'm getting better at the presentation, as you can all see! The piping was done with frosting in a Ziplock bag with a corner cut off!

You can try it out yourself : http://www.lesfoodies.com/choupy/recette/cupcakes-red-velvet-glaces-au-fromage-creme (it's in french, but I'm sure you can use some kind of translator!)

Nothing beats chocolate!

So my sister came to visit me at school. And since she is a master at baking, we decided it was the best way to have some sisterly bonding time. So we got our bake on!

Honestly speaking, nothing comes close to how good a nice chocolate cake makes you feel. So we didn't have a hard time picking out what we wanted to make and just dove right in!

Et voilà!

Of course we made a triple chocolate cupcake! it was a no-brainer, really! Chocolate cake, with chocolate frosting and chocolate chips to decorate! You can't go wrong!
This one is so classic, you don't really need to consult a recipe, you just make is happen! :)

Baking goods

Since I have been piling up pictures of the baking I've been doing I decided to just share them all.

Yes, they may not look super awesomely appetizing, but they are delicious! These were my very famous, and super well-received Maple Bacon Cupcakes!
Although I did incorporate some modifications to my cakes, you can find the helpful instructions on how to make this beautiful thing come true here:

ERHMAHGAWD!

Last post: JANUARY 2011.
Someone has clearly been busy. I knew writing while being in university was going to be hard, but it's really a huge ball-buster! So my writing has been on a VERY LONG hiatus, I guess with all this science-y school work, I just haven't had the chance to sit down and get inspired to write. My friends hate me for it, but what can I say, a block is a block. And sadly, mine is a semi-permanent one!

On a higher note, I did discover a love and passion for something other than writing stories. This passion doesn't require a lot of time spent thinking, nor does it require those grueling spell-checks that make me feel like a complete moron at times. Nope! It's that good! Yes, there is of course a SHIT-LOAD of dishes to do after, but the immediate satisfaction cannot be beat! I am talking about BAKING, ladies and gentle-people. Ever since I started watching Cupcake Wars and MasterChef, I've grown to really love and appreciate making little sweet bites of my own. Obviously, being on a student budget, I don't have all the INCREDIBLY SICK gadgets that the fancy chefs have to make their pastries, ( today I found out I do not currently own a rolling pin at my apartment...) so I must make due with what I have and hopefully it tastes and looks as awesome as it does in the magazines and on the shows!

Some of the creations are inspired from recipes from websites, others from my NOOB bakebook and the remaining are pulled out of thin air by yours truly ;)

Here is the very first pie I attempted with my roommate at the time!

It's a chocolate chunk pecan pie. It was really delicious! And clearly, I am an artist when it comes to decorating.
If you want to make one yourself, I got the recipe from here: http://www.verybestbaking.com/recipes/122650/Chocolate-Chunk-Pecan-Pie/detail.aspx

Tabitha: Drip Drop

Ruby red. That was the colour of the stain left behind from the still-warm blood droplets sliding down Ramona's arm and dripping from her fingertips to the floor. It was Tabitha's favourite colour. How she admired the pallor mortis of her ravishing new victim! Ramona was incredibly exquisite indeed. Her flawless auburn locks were coiffed in a do that would render any princess green with envy. Her skin was so soft, and cold. Her ankles were now a grey-ish blue from being tied up to the ceiling. Her thin frame was so delicate and beautiful that the little cuts left on her rib cage only added to her splendour, thought Tabitha.

She moved closer to Ramona while biting down on her lip. Tabitha felt shivers go down her spine as she approached her latest work of art. Never had she been this captured by anyone of her victims before, she was completely, utterly and perfectly spellbound. As the doll's arms hung over its head, the blood gushing from its ribs slid down the sides and created lovely patterns that fixated Tabitha. Standing right beside Ramona's hanging corpse, Tabitha inhaled deeply and filled her lungs with her sweet scent. She then pressed her hand against the corpse's back, smoothly massaging it, and with the other hand, caressed her lifeless face. Enchanted by the beauty emanating from Ramona's dissipating aura, Tabitha leaned her face towards her victim's and ever-so-softly posed her pink, plump lips onto Ramona's grey, dead ones.

Ecstatic, Tabitha felt an odd amount of sparks rush through her body - she was entirely fascinated. She swooned lightly as she held on to the floating body tightly. She then slowly mushed the lines of red on the victim's arms and smeared it before breathing gently on it. Tabitha felt the skin get warmer where she would exhale - her warm breath would render Ramona's frigid body caress-able.
So close her mouth came to Ramona's arm. So close her tongue came to Ramona's skin when they finally touched. Tabitha, with what appeared to be some form of love, wrapped her quivering, yet warm, lips around the ice-cold fingertip of Ramona's index, and sucked the ruby droplets right off.

À mon avis, t'as raison.
Il est con. La preuve?
Il t'aime encore."

Tabitha: The Hunt

Tabitha felt each scrape left on her pale skin by the sharp leaves as she ran faster into the green. Her feet crushed the little creatures that called the wet, brown ground their home. The sound of his exasperated breathing was barely audible to her but she focused on her hearing and continued running straight ahead. Her heartbeat was well tamed; she was used to the exercise. The epinephrine in her vessels drove her senses and reflexes to their zenith. Tabitha’s eyes widened and her vision sharpened and there was that extra bounce on her heels as she ran through the trees, catching up to him.
With all the power in her limbs, she leaped off the ground and pinned Trevor down. His fingers dug and his legs kicked the soil as he tried to escape Tabitha’s grasps. He spat out the dirt entering his mouth due to all the commotion and gasped for air, feeling his hunter’s hands tighten around his neck and her knee sink further into his spine. His body agitated for what seemed like an eternity to Tabitha. Trevor was a fighter, that much was settled; he screamed wildly and moved his arms and legs to get away. Tabitha thought to herself, how does a little body like Trevor's hold such a powerful bellow? Soon after, she began to dig her fingers into his vocal cords and happily felt the gush of blood exiting his neck and flowing all over the wet earth. Trevor's heartbeat decreased with his shouts until he finally drew his last breath.
Removing her fingers from his motionless throat, Tabitha exhaled slowly, with all the tranquillity the forest was meant to represent. She laid there, on his body, rubbing her legs against his. She sensed their bodies sinking ever so slowly into the chunky mud, but she was trying to inhale his scent before she had to return. Her hands stretched to intertwine her fingers with his, their bodies then creating a star on the brown ground. Tabitha laid there still, just breathing, watching the earth absorb the red water coming out of Trevor. He wasn't that strong after all.
